Worldwide, the Zero Project finds and shares solutions that improve the daily lives and legal rights of all persons with disabilities. The Zero Project was initiated by the Essl Foundation in 2008, with its mission centered on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its commitment to a world with zero barriers.

The Zero Project Call 2023 – #ZeroCall23 – centered around Innovative Practices and Policies in the field of Independent Living & Political Participation, and ICT, received a total of 320 nominations from 78 countries around the world. 71 Awardees from 38 countries have been selected as the Zero Project Awardees 2023!

Bapu Trust is an awardee in the Civil Society Category: Innovations in mental health, providing zero barrier solutions for persons with psychosocial disabilities, Deinstitutionalization. The CRPD represents the highest standard of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. The United Nations Human Rights Council, the CRPD committee and several human rights mechanisms have called for a paradigm shift in mental health care and support provision- reiterating the urgent need to mainstream mental health and psychosocial support across sectors and ensuring a rights-based approach to disability in the context of mental health. The Bapu Trust programs stand tall over this foundation and will be presented with the award at the Zero project Conference, the United Nations Office at Vienna, February 2023
